Burlington restaurateur and innkeeper Bev Watson & her business partner, Russell Holmes (formerly of Isabel’s on the Waterfront and The Willard Street Inn) run the Grand Isle Lake House less like a company, and more like a family.
“You kind of start working for them, and you never stop. They couldn’t be any better to work for,” says Sue Bumbeck, our extraordinary wedding planner.
Sue should know. She’s been working at Grand Isle Lake house since 1997, becoming director of special events in 2006.
“It really is a family…It’s a big family, says Sue. “We all care a lot about each other. We celebrate our birthdays together, my kids know Bev, and Russell, and Sheryl. We’ve all worked together for so long, we all know where we’re supposed to be at a certain time.”
Sheryl is Grand Isle Lake House’s executive chef, and has worked directly for Bev for almost 30 years. Clearly an integral part of our long-running team, she is responsible for planning menus, food purchasing, and laying out every tiny detail. Russell does all of the actual cooking.
“We keep him in the back!” Sue chuckles. “He’ll have everyone distracted and laughing!”
“The staff at Grand Isle Lake House gave us the wedding we envisioned for ourselves and then some. Our guests had an absolute blast! The venue is GORGEOUS! The food was perfect! We couldn’t have asked for a better time. Waking up on site with everyone you love most around you and then walking downstairs to an amazing VT breakfast may have been our favorite part. It just made everything so seamless on the ‘Big Day’!” – Google Reviews
